ICC Project Case Study:
Peña Colorada Mine Revamping Project, Mexico 2014-2017
ICC's role: Technical and Economic Specialist; Factory Acceptance Testing
Project Summary: The main aim of the project was to ‘revamp’ the Peña Colorada iron ore mine in Mexico in order to restore the concentrate production level of iron ore to 4.5 million tons per year, thus enabling Mexico to maintain iron ore self-sufficiency to support Mexican steelmaking operations. The iron ore quality had diminished over time and further processing equipment was required to be manufactured and installed according to specification.
ICC’s team of specialist engineers provided ‘flexible’, independent, technical support, to oversee the manufacture and installation of key equipment to include a 40’ SAG mill, ball mill, gyratory crusher and interconnecting process equipment (including a stacker, reclaimer and materials handling systems). Our engineers were present to oversee both on-site installation operations in Mexico and key manufacturing stages at sites in Europe, North America, Malaysia, China and South Africa over a 3 year period.
